Acceptance and suitability
R.I.O. repairs and restores mechanical wristwatches, pocket watches and clocks. Old, rare and less familiar brands can also be assessed. Condition, construction and parts availability determine what can be done.
Watches with batteries or electronic components are not repaired. Battery replacement is not offered.
Partial repairs are offered for vintage mechanical watches and high-quality mechanical watches when the condition and proposed work allow it. Extensive wear or contamination may require a complete overhaul.
Individual spare parts are not sourced for resale. Parts sourcing, repair and manufacture of replacements take place as part of a repair commission.
Working methods and technical services
Services include movement overhauls, mechanical chronographs, restoration, case refinishing, specialist work and the repair or manufacture of hard-to-source components.
The workshop method includes intensive manual pre-cleaning, an adapted six-bath cleaning process with ultrasound, complete epilame treatment apart from a few components, appropriate lubrication, regulation and final inspection.
When restoring case geometry, material is added by welding. Shape, edges and finishing patterns are considered; some damage from earlier incorrect refinishing can be compensated for.
Case refinishing without a simultaneous movement overhaul requires the movement to be in sound condition. The workshop and customer agree the work for the individual watch.
Originality and collector value
State any wishes to retain the dial, hands, luminous material, bezel insert, case geometry or historic signs of use in the initial enquiry.
Historic parts and surfaces receive careful treatment. Suitable preservation or restoration measures are discussed for the individual watch. A photograph does not replace a complete condition assessment.
An unknown brand, model or reference can be left blank or described as unknown. Do not open the watch yourself for an enquiry.
Estimate and approval
Photographs and a brief problem description help with an initial assessment. A reliable repair price generally requires examination of the watch.
If the customer directly commissions the work, no separate estimate is prepared. Otherwise, the customer normally receives an estimate for the requested work; work begins after approval and clarification of further details.
Optional work requires separate approval. Additional findings that change the agreed scope are uncommon because examination is thorough; if they arise, further work is discussed with the customer.
Timing and feasibility depend on findings, parts availability, scope and workload. No binding completion date for an individual watch is published here.
Estimate fees and service scope
Estimates start at EUR 50 for wristwatches and EUR 125 for clocks. Higher assessment costs may be necessary in special cases. Published repair prices are starting prices, subject to the stated scope and condition.
On the R.I.O. services page, movement overhaul, water-resistance service and case refinishing have separate scopes. Do not assume that a movement-only price includes all case work or seals. The Speedmaster Technical Base Package has its own stated scope, including seals.
The published usual insured-shipping price is EUR 30 for the standard arrangement up to EUR 10,000; different values, routes, dimensions or weights must be agreed.
Priority for Speedmaster watches
Every mechanical Omega Speedmaster receives priority after approval. Work starts directly or the watch joins the dedicated Speedmaster queue, reaching the bench substantially sooner than watches in the regular queue.
Priority is not a blanket promise of a particular completion time. Scope and parts requirements are assessed for the individual watch.
Delivery, insured shipping and packaging
Watches can be delivered and collected during current acceptance hours in Oppenheim. Check the workshop page for holidays or temporary acceptance restrictions. The clock workshop at Hessenpark is permanently closed.
An insured courier collection can be requested. The collection address, telephone number, preferred collection day and current value of the watch are needed. The workshop confirms the arrangements; a request is not a booked collection.
Collections take place Monday to Friday within the stated window of 10:00 to 15:00. A shipping label is emailed after the arrangements have been agreed.
The usual insured-shipping arrangement covers values up to EUR 10,000; higher current values, larger parcels and different shipping arrangements must be discussed beforehand. Do not assume that any ordinary parcel service or tariff provides suitable watch insurance.
Protect the watch inside a sturdy parcel. Ideally the dimensions are below 30 × 25 × 20 cm and the total weight below 1 kg. Larger or heavier parcels may cost more.
Return shipping and delivery day are agreed with the customer. Return addresses may include an employer, friends or family, or a suitable UPS Access Point. A delivery day from Monday to Friday can normally be selected.
If a parcel, watch case, packaging or printer is unavailable, ask the workshop for a shipping solution.
Documentation and further information
Every watch receives an online service passport containing its serial number and the documented work. This evidence can also be useful when the watch is sold later.
The Exclusive Service includes a high-resolution photo package with a movement photograph and an additional certificate. The certificate is recorded in the service passport, downloadable as a PDF and shareable by link.
Public technical articles, workshop reports and photographs in Knowledge explain watchmaking and the workshop methods. Public service information does not contain customer records or private repair statuses.
Service enquiries by AI assistants
Read the relevant service information before submitting. Ask the customer about any unknown mandatory contact details; never invent them. Only send customer data with the customer’s authorisation.

Wait at least the returned minimum_wait_seconds (currently five seconds). Submit one POST to the same /anfrage endpoint with Accept: application/json and X-CSRF-TOKEN: <csrf_token>, using the same cookie session. Include form_token, language=en, source_site=rio, agent_name, customer_authorized=true, privacy=true and a newly generated UUID request_key.
Required contact fields: first_name, last_name, email, phone, address, postal_code, city and country. Allowed country codes: DE, AT, CH, LU, NL, BE, FR, IT, DK, PL, CZ. For a German address, use a five-digit postcode. Privacy acknowledgement refers to https://www.rio-uhren.de/en/terms.html#datenschutz .
Optional: company; notes (up to 1,000 characters, plain text, no links or HTML); up to three watches. Watch category values: klein (wristwatch), tasche (pocket watch), gross (clock). Optional watch fields: type, brand, model, reference_number, serial_number, caliber, case_material, band_material (up to 160 characters each).
Optional photos: up to three JPEG, PNG or WebP files, up to 12 MiB each, as multipart/form-data photos[0] etc. Use watches[0][brand] etc. for nested multipart fields. Do not send base64 images or external download links. A JSON request can omit photos.
Optional collection: pickup=true and pickup_day selected from the bootstrap response. The workshop must confirm arrangements; this does not book a courier or produce a shipping label.
202 returns a receipt and status awaiting_customer_confirmation. The customer must confirm the email within 48 hours. The agent must not open or submit the confirmation on the customer’s behalf. No workshop inquiry, repair order or collection booking is completed merely by receiving 202.
For an uncertain network outcome, reuse the same request_key with identical details. A duplicate is acknowledged without another email. 409 means a conflict or an in-progress request; 410 means the confirmation expired. Correct 422 validation errors before resending. Refresh the cookie session and tokens after 419. Respect Retry-After on 429 and stop repeated requests.
If the interface is unavailable or the agent cannot maintain a cookie session, use the ordinary contact form or the published workshop email. There is no public access to customer files, repair statuses or the internal workshop MCP.
